Tasks
1. Learning Lab supports
the innovation of problem-based learning at the Universiteit
Maastricht
with the help of
educational technology.
In this area collaborative learning comes first. In
collaborative learning students independently develop knowledge,
in interaction with
peers, and use this knowledge to
solve problems. To this end, Learning Lab develops tools and
studies the use of these tools. During the last four years,
Learning Lab has developed
the POLARIS
tool
(Problem-Based Learning and Retrieval Information System). In
co-operation with faculties, Learning Lab tests the learning
results of collaborative learning, based on small pilot studies.
2. Learning Lab evaluates the educational design and the use
of EleUM, the learning environment of the UM (Blackboard).
The most important goal of this evaluation is to provide all
stakeholders
with information
relevant
to take decisions based on
educational, organizational and technical considerations, about
the deployment of personal and material
resources. To reach this
goal, the project focuses on mapping the growth of the
implementation of EleUM in education.
Items
of particular
interest are: to provide information to teachers and students on
the use of, the extent in which EleUM contributes to innovation
of the UM educational concept and the effectiveness of
investments compared to the quality of education.
3. Learning Lab
supports
the
development of
didactic
expertise in the field of ICT & Education within the UM. This
contributes to the use and success of EleUM.
Examples are:
·
Informing users on the possibilities of ICT and Blackboard,
particularly EleUM;
·
Developing and presenting material and (offering support during)
skill training to all target groups;
·
Helping with the design and development of Blackboard training
sessions, using different didactic scenarios.
·
Offering support in making didactic decisions on the use of
Blackboard facilities.
Based on the expertise within these three fields Learning
Lab
is also partner in several projects outside the UM.
