The EleUM-project has
marked its beginning in January 2002.
EleUM*
stands for Electronic Learning Environment University of
Maastricht. This project aims at improving the organisation
of education taught at UM by designing and implementing an
electronic learning environment that in the long run will be
accessible to all UM teachers and students. The core of
EleUM consists of Blackboard.
Within this framework,
Learning Lab carries out two projects: while it gives the
aforementioned support for the didactic embedding of ICT in
the education at UM, it also evaluates
the implementation process and consumer use of EleUM.
Support
The support, as
mentioned above, includes the following activities:
·
Investigate specific
conditions of the UM organisational structure, in order to
secure optimal use of Blackboard;
· Analyse demand of
particular studies at UM;
· Develop and present
trainings and material to all target groups (students,
tutors, block coordinators, managerial and supportive staff
· Support the design and
development of Blackboard-courses
· Support the management and
reuse of existing Blackboard-courses
· Give support to didactic
issues when implementing Blackboard-facilities
· Advancement of expertise in
the area of ICT-applications within the sphere of education
and the effects of use of these applications in education.
Evaluation
The evaluation aims to provide the persons who are involved
of information which is necessary to take decisions in
regard to the deployment of personal and material methods.
The implementation of ICT in Education is a developmental
process that indicates a couple of stages that has to be
going through. The evaluation takes place by following that
developmental process and regularly map the state of affairs
on a number of specific domains, like:
-
Opinions instructors: this concerns the attitude of the
teachers towards ICT&O in general and the acceptation of
EleUM in particular. Also the extent of expertise and the
involvement with the realization of the policy are subject
of the study.
-
Opinions students: also here it concerns the attitude
according to ICT&O and the acceptation of EleUM. Also the
extent of expertise and the involvement with the
realization of the education get attention.
-
Education process: this concerns
to what extent and in what way EleUM plays a part in the
primary education process.
-
Organization: this concerns the accessibility, the
didactic support and the finances.
The state of affairs is going to be mapped by conversation
with the EleUM coordinators of the faculties, surveys for
the instructors and the students and by the assessment of
the available courses.
